Perfect start for salmon and seatrout in the river Rickleå

The season for seatrout-fishing in the upper half of the river Rickleå,50 km north of Umeå in Swedish Lapland, started today May 1, and it could hardly start better.

Making a one-day trip to produce a promotion video for this upcoming jewel of southern Lapland, together with my friend Leo as cameraman and the experienced fishing guide Per Brännström, I set a personal record on fly caught sea trout, close to 6 kg. It was a female sea trout that I had the pleasure to release after a nice fight on my one hand rod.

During a period of only 6 hours, in a short stretch (about 1 km in length) just downstream the village of Robertsfors, 5 fishermen had a marvellous time, catching and releasing 4 salmon and 3 sea trout.

In one week the lower part of the river will be opened for fishing and then the chances are high of catching the silver coloured, newly arrived sea trout that has made this river so famous.More and more salmon is reaching the river, so in the end of June there will be some nice salmon runs.

Some of you will be here to discover this, when you arrive to combine the Lapland Fishing Festival with a nice fishing vacation.
