Tropical Lapland
The summer of 2006 has been a very strange year in Swedish Lapland. During late July and the whole of August, almost no rain fell in southern Lapland. That, combined with a never ending sunshine, made the rivers extremely low and warm, way over the temperature that salmon and trout likes. Lapland was almost tropical and instead of fishing, people were swimming in the rivers.

Pike and perch fishing in a tropical Lapland

But what some dislike, others like. The persch fishing has been tremendous and even in the wild river Vindelälven many perch have been caught in places where they never been caught before.

Even in spite of that, the fishing has been succesful for many foreign visitors. The Lapland Fishing Festival was a success with a high class pike fishing, both before and after the festival, in vast parts of the county.

A happy man from Berlin with a 12.5 kg salmon

When the temperatur in the rivers dropped in late august, the salmon got a wake up call. In the river Vindelälven, it was like to different rivers that appeared. From a river that looked like it was out of salmon, things really changed during the first two weeks in september. Almost every day salmon was caught or hooked, and the biggest was caught by Martin from Berlin. His three days trip ended up with 2 salmon caught, the biggest at 12.5 kg and at least three hooked one.
