Flyfishing and flies

Pike and perch
General: You will find high quality pike waters everywhere in Lapland, and it´s no problem to find a spot where You're totally alone in the forest, fighting this perfect predator. Many of the lakes and rivers in Lapland with high quality fishing are hardly ever fished and fishermen do not disturb the pike. The camps in Rännudden and Gafsele are the perfect choice in high quality fishing for pike and perch. The river Ångermanälven (Gafsele) produce enormous perch and is probably one of the best pike and perch rivers in Sweden.

Season
The season for pike starts in the end of May, after the spawning, and you can have some really nice flyfishing by the Baltic coast or in the forest lakes. The season for perch starts in June and gets better when the temperature in the water gets higher. The season lasts between June-September. The big pike likes to move to cooler water during the hot season, and will most probably be searched for in deeper areas of the lake.

Rods & Baits
Worms, spinners and jigs are popular baits for perch, and most fun is to use those bait with light rods. For pike it gets more and more popular to flyfish with large shiny flies. For spin fishermen the use of Rappalas and big rubberjigs is effective. On the deep areas, the use of coarsefishing with dead baitfish is very effective.
