Fishing/
Salmon & Seatrout
General
information
Characteristics
of the rivers:
In southern Lapland the rivers can be divided in forest rivers
and mountain rivers. The mountain rivers are characterised by
high water levels during summer with decreasing levels in late
July and August. In the Vindelälven river, because fishing
from boat is the preferable method, it is recommended to contact
a local guide if you want to try for salmon. Species like grayling
and trout can be fished from the banks, allthough a boat ride
increases your chances to catch fish.
The forest rivers, for example Byske älv, Lögde älv
and Rickleå are characterised by an early and relatively
short flood during May and early June. The peak for salmon is
in late June, but there is a good chance to catch salmon all
through out July-August. The forest rivers can be fished from
the banks with no problem, even a single handed rod can be used.
