GOOD TO KNOW BEFORE THE TRIP
FINLAND
Finland is one of the Nordic countries, bordered by Norway, Sweden, and Russia to the north. It has a population of approximately 5.5 million, with its capital, Helsinki, located at the southern tip. Finland is a safe and modern country to visit and has been named the happiest country in the world multiple times, including in 2024!
LAPLAND
Lapland is the northernmost region of Finland, with Rovaniemi, located on the Arctic Circle, as its center. This region makes up one-third of Finland’s area but has only about 180,000 residents, offering plenty of space and tranquility.
PEOPLE
Lappish people are easy-going and friendly. While they may seem shy and introverted at first, this is only half of the story. They are welcoming and warm once you get to know them.
TRAVELLING
Rovaniemi and Lapland are easily accessible by plane, train, or bus. Rovaniemi now has over 30 direct flight connections to European cities. Trains are user-friendly, especially in the summer, offering low prices and reliability. Buses within Finland can be extremely cheap if booked early.
FISHING
Finland has a concept called “every man’s rights” (jokamiehenoikeudet) in its legislation, allowing great freedom to roam nature responsibly. Fishing permits are required nationally and locally. With over 188,000 lakes, Finland offers diverse fishing opportunities.
EMERGENCY
In case of emergency, Finland provides high-quality medical attention, regardless of your location. Lapland’s main hospital is in Rovaniemi, with helicopter services available for wilderness emergencies. Guides are familiar with first aid, which is usually sufficient for most accidental situations.
